E12 identifies a small Edison screw base with a nominal diameter of 12 millimetres. It is often called a candelabra base. The code does not specify the bulb’s shape, supply voltage, brightness or smart-home functions.
E12 and E14 are different sizes
A slim candle-shaped bulb may use E12, E14 or another base. Do not choose by silhouette alone, and do not assume two small screw bases are interchangeable. Read the fixture’s marked base and compare the full bulb dimensions with the available clearance, especially inside a narrow shade or decorative enclosure.
Replacing a bulb in an imported fitting
Check the fitting documentation and the actual bulb’s electrical rating against the installation. A regional name or a photograph is not evidence of local supply compatibility. Respect the fitting’s permitted load and any enclosure or dimmer restrictions. If the socket or wiring needs alteration, have a qualified installer assess it instead of using an adapter as an improvised solution.
Finding the right product family
Look for an explicitly identified E12 product when the fitting requires E12. The current Yeelight bulb collection includes GU10 products, which are a different connection and are not E12 replacements. If your priority is connected lighting, check the correct base first and then the exact model’s app, gateway and control support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does “candle bulb” always mean E12?
No. Candle describes a shape; the base must be checked independently.
Can I choose E14 because it looks nearly the same?
No. E12 and E14 have different nominal base diameters. Use the fitting’s specified connection.
